Description: 'Extended Bass Technique' is the new minimalist dream dialled in by Minus Pilots. In music, extended technique is a term applied to describe unconventional, unorthodox or non-traditional methods of playing instruments used to create unusual sounds. With only one electric bass and a volume controller, a scattering of analogue delay/looping pedals and a broken four-track cassette tape recorder, the arrangements included here offer a complex, dark gateway to a solemn, windswept world awash with seductive atmospherics. The seven pieces featured on 'Extended Bass Technique Volume I' are built from sparingly improvised experiments, sparse textures and currents of gentle crackle. Keeping the enigma intact, 'Extended Bass Technique Volume II' continues the tone with a further seven movements of carefully restrained drift where elusive strings tease from behind fractured drones. The meditative edits included on this release melt into a delicate, intimate space of warm yet deeply detached fragile ambiguity. We just keep on returning to this record, enjoying the tracks more and more with every listen. Brilliant.
