Description: Stephen Viteillo's solo debut with Champion Version contains two splendid tracks on a limited edition 7" titled 'Afterglow (Or Abendrot)'. For 'Afterglow' Stephen has recorded a series of improvised experiments and electronic sounds, broken them down into their most basic form, rebuilt the remnants and mixed them with Patrick DeWit's twitchy drums to create an amazing, driving kraut-inspired piece of genius. Extraordinary stuff. And the motorik theme continues with the B side. '(Or Abendrot)' is a 3:32 minute reworking of the A side that evolves seamlessly throughout with minimalist yet effervescent components that unconsciously place you in a state of pure calm. An incredible reworking of the debris. And to top it off, both tracks have been expertly mastered by Taylor Deupree of 12k. Headphones and quiet surroundings are recommended.

I'm reminded of something my grandfather Oscar told me that I never forgot. He said that he thought the cello was the only instrument that sounded the closest to a human heart...breaking. And that holds so true on this record. Thank you Aaron for your beautiful cello, as well as all the other wonderful stringed instruments. Even if he says otherwise, Ian Hawgood is super prolific and incredibly talented in not only his own releases, but in collaborations and with the heart & soul put into the labels he's run over the years. Saying all that, this is a more recent favorite release of Ian's: peaceful, deceivingly simple (yet not!) piano works that is personal, elegant and graceful in its warmth and presentation.
