Description: This magnificent two part 10" set by Clusters is a direct collaboration between members of An Ending Ascend and Minus Pilots respectively. Using their six-string electric basses, EBows, volume controllers, several effects devices and a Revox reel-to-reel tape machine, the idea behind the project was that each bassist would send the other an email containing basic concepts with which to start a composition. Minus Pilots' minimalist offerings are grounded in a more theoretical mindset, functioning structurally applying arpeggios, scales, chords, etc. whereas An Ending Ascend's contributions lean more towards the sculpting of played out drone tapestries, exploring a wide variety of properties. Operating at profound levels of communication, the experiments included here render grandiose spaces for the imagination to drift unconstrained, coloured by spectral tonal shades and trembling with the most tactile atmospherics. The end result is quite incredible. Exemplary work from both parties and an essential purchase.
Even if he says otherwise, Ian Hawgood is super prolific and incredibly talented in not only his own releases, but in collaborations and with the heart & soul put into the labels he's run over the years.
Saying all that, this is a more recent favorite release of Ian's: peaceful, deceivingly simple (yet not!) piano works that is personal, elegant and graceful in its warmth and presentation. Plus it's for a wonderful cause. Get it!! Joe Borreson
"Dissolve" shows a lot of unique and emotional layers and textures. To people who haven't heard this so far, you need to hear this because this is what ambient deserves to be: slow, drifting, and able to evoke emotions which they do perfectly. 6 amazing songs to get lost inside. Visual Complexity
