about

Description: A heavy and intense mantra about Mediterranean profane ritualism. Blending obsessive rhythms and haunting percussion, tribal dance, heavy kicks, lo-fi buzzing, spoken word hypnosis, primordial energy and evocative vocals with thick drones, field recordings, pulsing feedback and massively distorted guitars, ‘Madrighe’ is the first work in a series dedicated to ancient themes from Sardinia Island, IlSantoBevitore’s native home.

Background: Continuing his research delving into ethnomusicological territories, ‘Madrighe’ is dedicated to ‘Berbos’, ancestral Sardinian prayers. Barbos are words, they are not normal words but rather magic formulas which have the power to cure people from evil as well as to cause it. Each track intends to recreate those fascinating pagan practices, translating them into modern musical codes. Madrighe is an ancient word which in Sardinian language means Matrice (Matrix). Four tracks linked together under the same Madrighe of spiritualism and ritualism of the mysterious Sardinia Island. A sense of archaism within a post-modern flavour embraces the entire record. Raw, yet sophisticated, Madrighe delves into the past and present at the same time. The most collaborative work so far, featuring London-based producer NoMoreWillRoam, multi-instrumentalist Davide Chessa on guitar feedback and screaming, vocal samples from Lani Rocillo and synths, hardware, percussions, tapes and field recordings by IlSantoBevitore.
