Description: The two tracks included on this 7" feature Gareth Davis on bass clarinet and Elliott Sharp on acoustic guitar. Both 'Hair Bender' and 'Perk' should certainly be considered as experimental and avant-garde, they’re successful at returning jazz to its most primitive roots with a heavy emphasis on improvisation. Together Gareth and Elliott place an aesthetic premium on altering, extending and breaking down the conventions of jazz by discarding fixed chord changes, structures and tempos. The duo play in chorus and while there is a series of solos as is usual in jazz, they’re interspersed with freeform commentaries that turn the pieces into full-scale collective improvisation. Loosely defined movement.
