Description: Mastered by Mark Beazley of Rothko, these beautifully contained movements mark the second 10” from An Ending Ascend to be released on Champion Version. '04-19/22/23/29' is a collection of sparse, sullen set pieces that drift in and out in a similarly luxurious and gentle fashion. The mild drones work perfectly with melodic lulls and a warm nervous tension running throughout. With its ambient tones and quietly suspended electric bass notes, '04-19/22/23/29' is empty and disconnected, weightless and calm and completely beautiful.
Even if he says otherwise, Ian Hawgood is super prolific and incredibly talented in not only his own releases, but in collaborations and with the heart & soul put into the labels he's run over the years.
Saying all that, this is a more recent favorite release of Ian's: peaceful, deceivingly simple (yet not!) piano works that is personal, elegant and graceful in its warmth and presentation. Plus it's for a wonderful cause. Get it!! Joe Borreson
Erasures And Displacements is the ephemereal story of a non-existent space during a non-definable time.
Metamorphic piano shapes collide with electronic bursts of energy, shatter into impossible geometric figures and are reborn as new objects ready to start a cycle again, maintaining a constant acoustic fission self-destructing and self-repairing in a delicate balance.
As chance sometimes leads to opportunities, improvisation sometimes sparks meaning. A quintessence of beautiful serendipity. Dotflac
